Pain is complex sensation, it involves sensory, motivational
and cognitive factors. Pain is also considered as an essential
element of life. But every individual experiences the pain on the
different level. It has been seen that environment affect the
experience of pain. Social or cultural influence is major factor
behind the experience of pain.
During childhood everyone express the feeling of pain, but
after growing up, because of some social or culture values and
beliefs, they don't express their feeling of pain. Pain is not
always considered as physical experiences, it is also seen as
psychological feeling.
We can not feel the pain on the same way every time, For
example, If someone pinch me suddenly, then I would react to it
intensely, but if I know that the person is going to pinch me then
probably I won't react that much this time. It could happen because
of some neurological signals or some psychological factors, we can
not measure the pain exactly. Therefore it is considered as
subjective feeling. Although some scientists claim that they can
measure the pain objectively. So pain is considered as objective
and subjective both.
The neuroscientists have been succeed to measure the pain
objectively. They have developed the techniques to predict the pain
by brain scanned images. Some doctors also use pain scale to
measure the pain.
Socioculture influence the feeling of pain. Every culture has
different perspective of pain, some of them are natural to the pain
but some of them hide it. Some cultures don't allow the person to
express their feeling of pain, even some are very normal to it.
Some cultures take it positive and some negative. These beliefs and
values affect the pain expression, pain language, remedies for
pain, and the perception for pain.
