What is the American constitutional
democracy?
Core values of constitutional
democracy are the fundamental beliefs as well as the principles
that glue to society and all of the Americans together. These
values have been mentioned in the ‘Declaration of Independence ‘ as
well as the constitution of United States. Some of the core values
are explained below:
- Rule of law
- Separation of powers in the form of
judicial, executive as well as legislative.
- A ‘representative government’ which
is the one that is elected by the citizens such that it would
represent the interest of the citizens.
- Checks and balances where the
powers handed to the government are such that they would be
balanced such that none of the branches could dominate over the
other.
- Individual rights, where,
individuals would be having certain basic set of rights which would
not be created but should be protected by the elected
government.
- Freedom of religion: there has to
be existence of religious freedom in the society such that every
individual could freely practice their religion without be imposed
on superimposed on.
- Equality: every citizen has
political equality and non of these rights could ever be denied
unless they are prohibited by a process of law.
