Molly walked into the house very late in the evening that day. She quickly removed her high heels near the door. Oh how much her feet hurt! She threw her car keys on the stand near the door and walked towards the living room. Her husband Gerard had arrived early today. He had lit the fireplace already, so the living room felt warm and cosy. Noticing that Molly had come, he quickly removed the earphones from his ears and exclaimed “Oh Molly! Good evening! You look so pale and haggard my dear! Is everything okay?” Molly just nodded in yes and plopped on the couch nearby.

“Could you get me some water Gary please?”

“Sure.” Gerard got up and went to fetch some water for Molly from the kitchen.

Gerard and Molly had been married two years and were living a happy life. While Gerard was an Investment Banker, Molly was a fashion Journalist and both lived in their posh house in Manhattan. But these days Molly was worried with something. She wanted to share this with Gerard but she wasn’t sure she should, considering the other problems they were already facing.

Just a few days back Gerard’s brother had called asking for a huge sum of money saying he was in a big trouble. While they both knew what a spendthrift he was he still decided to help him. And they had just discovered that he lost all that money in some gamble of his. Though he had promised to return the money as soon as he could they both knew he said it only to mollify Gerard. The money was gone.

Molly and Gerard both earned well but this money was a lot of their savings. They needed it to pay off the loan they had taken for their big posh house. The bank had already given them a sanction for missing the deadline. Gerard had waived all these practicalities and decided to help his brother and he was so worried.

Amidst all of this, how could Molly talk to Gerard about the carnal advances her manager at work was making at her! She didn’t want to burden Gerard with this. Besides, promotions and increment were round the corner. The extra money could really help them both! The manger had been verbose about how he could help her but only if she helped him. His intentions were not at all ambiguous. While Molly had unequivocally told him her answer too but now she was really worried if it would lead to her missing the increment and promotion this time round.

She was just thinking all this when Gerard told her that the bank that rejected their request to waive off one instalment of their loan. Molly did not know what to do. She broke down in front of Gerard and told him everything.

Gerard smiled and told her “ You silly girl! Why did you have to endure all this? You should have told this to me before. Now you will go and resign from your job the first thing in the morning tomorrow. I will speak to manager and see what we can do about the loan again. Life is malleable. You shape the circumstances the way you want to. And not otherwise. Don’t worry we will have this sorted. Now let’s go out and get ourselves some nice dinner.”
