Do attachment patterns, as described in the video about attachment theory, affect humans' intimate relationships and the individuals' self-regulation? Why or why not?
According to attachment theory , the individual is attached both physically and emotionally with their caregiver or atleast with any one person. Jhon Bowlby (1907-1990) was the first person who termed about this theory from the results he found in his study about children. this theory can be understood in context of evolution. Attachment is basically adaptive. theory about attachment says the humans are biologically pre-programmed to develop attachment with others and things to survive in this world. The first attachment OCCUR WHEN THE HUMANS ARE IN INFANT STAGE, this first attachment act as a PROTOTYPE for the future attachment and this theory says that the critical year is between birth to 5years. Attachment theorists found the the relationship between adults are more similar when compared with the child and caregiver relationship because they both share some similar features like safty, closeness, bodily contact, security etc. Both self regulation and intimacy are more over related, for example when a person feel insecure during their infancy then his or her emotional, behavioural and cognitive development become difficult. so ofcourse attachment plays a major role in determining the individual's self.
