The plausible way of taking decisions would be with respect to thinking about the issues and outcomes and then narrowing down on the decision, but most often, as most natural sciences peg humans as rational beings, there is a discrepancy in that belief, as we aren't the most rational but the irrational and emotion driven race.

Of course, there are high profile professions that require rational based decisions and actions, but most of the decision that are taken by the lay men are those which aren't always deeply rooted in thought, but rather in emotions.

For instance, if one is to make a decision about a certain relationships that is most definitely toxic and not serving one quite well, there is a higher probability of one sticking around than leaving, the latter which would be wiser, beacsue the former is more comfortable and rooted in emotions.
