Intelligence is the multifunctional ability to learn and apply skills.In 2 year olds, the following have been agreed upon by studies as the major traits that descibe intelligence.

  1. verbal ability-start asking what and how questions, are able to form short sentences, although speech is not very clear
  2. learning ability-pretend play, trial and error to solve a problem
  3. awareness of people and environment
  4. motor coordination- walking, jumping with both feet,climbing stairs with help of railing.
  5. curiousity- at this age the child often tries to move away from from caregiver to explore things around.They want to do everything that they are told not to do.Although troubling for parents this curiosity is an important indicator of child's intellctual development as he begins to learn about causal effects and different concepts.
