If part of the purpose of Reconstruction was to heal sectional bitterness, to what extent was it a success with regard to southern whites?
Few of the most important successes of the Civil War were uniting all the states together to legally form a nation which ended the confederate states that were hesitating to join the new nation, abolishing slavery which was very much practiced and supported in the South than the North and protecting every citizen in the country thus including the Black people in the citizenship and finally right to vote to all the men as against the white people who owned lands. Civil war’s original goal was to unite the nation but it achieved beyond its goals in terms of bringing the South in line with the mainstream society.
