Yes, i think corporal punishment has lasting adverse psychological effects on the child. Research has shown that corporal punishment increases aggression in children, as it encourages the children to use violent methods. The children start to model this aggressive behaviour shown by their parents towards them, and start displaying this physical aggression on their peers or others.

Research has also shown that physical punishment is detrimental to the cognitive development in children. Children who had endured corporal punishment are likely to have lower IQ points than those were were not. Children who are physically abused are also emotionally impaired and have problems in social development and communication. These children are also more like to have problem with substances, and are also more likely to have mental disorders.
