Deductive reasoning is the thought that if the premises for an argument guarantees the truth of the conclusion, then the conclusion must be true. Inductive reasoning can only conclude that some of the support for a conclusion is true, though it can have a premise that is true with a false conclusion. Each type is appropriate when trying to find the conclusion to a syllogism to explain the logic of an experiment. Through inductive reasoning of explaining the premise the premise must be “true, primary, immediate, better known than, prior to, and causative of the conclusion” (Groarke, 2018). Once the premise is made with inductive reasoning. A deductive analysis can be made to make sure the premise is true and supports a conclusion that is true.
I have used deductive reasoning during math tests to make sure that answers are correct and by proving the guarantee that the conclusion of the premises are correct I can be sure that the questions that I answer are correct.
I have used inductive reasoning to choose a movie that I’d watch though I am not sure that I’m going to enjoy the movie because there I can only conclude that some of the support for the conclusion is true. So, when making the decision on the movie I can’t make sure that the conclusion is true that I am going to enjoy it.
The examples given to demonstrate how deductive reasoning and inductive reasoning occur in everyday life is explanatory. To this, I would like to add instances of these types of reasoning used in workplace and organisational settings. A consumer products firm believes that professional women are overloaded with family and work responsibilities and strapped for time. Therefore, by deduction, they design an advertisement in which their hair coloring product can be applied in less time than their competition's hair coloring product. In case of inductive reasoning, a teacher notices that his students learned more when hands-on activities were incorporated into lessons, and then decides to regularly include a hands-on component in his future lessons.
