Write a response to the passage below

VR

Deductive reasoning is a logical process in which a conclusion is based on the concordance of multiple premises that are generally assumed to be true.

Inductive reasoning is a logical process in which multiple premises, all believed true or found true most of the time, are combined to obtain a specific conclusion.

For this discussion I am going to use an example chemistry. Based on my understanding, You would use deductive reasoning for a chemical reaction with sugar and coffee. Deductive reasoning would suggest that because sugar desolves in coffee that it would be true for all things in that category. Such as, tea, water, soda, alcohol, and so on.

Inductive reasoning takes the same things such as sugar and coffee, but builds a bases on what could be there. It states the hypothosis prior to it own theory. The inductive reasoning would be used before the deductive. This is because inductive brainstorms the possible theories. Then deductive tells you whether it is true or not in that category.

My example for my own personal life would be using deductive reasoning. I always try to find the truth behind everything. down to the last fact or theory. At work if I do something or as I am doing my work I always think logical and how it will benefit everyone and if anyone asks why I did it that way I have my reason already there just in case someone does ask.

Answer #1

The definition provided for inductive and deductive reasoning is accurate, however, there appears to be a slight confusion with the example provided for deductive reasoning. Deductive reasoning moves from the general to the specific. To conclude that sugar would dissolve in tea, soda, alcohol etc. based on a observation of it dissolving in coffee is in fact making a generalisation. This is an example of inductive reasoning and not deductive reasoning. Deductive reasoning would state the opposite. If we found that sugar dissolved in coffee, we can deduce that sugar is soluble in coffee.

Philosophy 6.2 PD write a response to this passage Validity, consistency, and soundness are premises of arguments in critical thinking. Validity is the premises of an argument that could be true. An argument is said to be valid if "it's impossible for all of the premises to be true while its conclusion is false" (Ancell, 2014). Consistency is the premise that the given claims are constant if logically possible for all the claims to be true at the same time....
