Intro to Criminal Justice question - The U.S. is currently utilizing a punishment model for all jail and prison inmates: in other words, lock up with little or no rehabilitation seems to be the dominant political thought. Is this approach effective in your opinion? Explain.
Thank you!
We don't have many ways to deal with the issue of jails and prisons inmates.
Either we should go for the rehabilitation or the punishment model.
Punishment model does seems like a bold move and shows the political dominance in the country, but we all know where the rehabilitation model ended up. Prisons offered the so-called rehabilitation program for decades at the cost of countess lives and Billions of Dollars. In the quest to absolve the individual from any accountability, we have blamed the history, poverty, parochial schools and parenting. As a result of this, the crime rate is exploding. It is past time to toss the rehabilitation approach and focus on reducing crime rate. And that's what the government is going to do and I believe it's an effective approach.
