Is ASK or PSK more spectrally efficient? Explain

ASK- Amplitude shift keying and PSK -Phase shift keying are both digital modulation techniques. Both are used for modulating the carrier signal.

Spectral efficient or bandwidth efficiency is defined as the information rate that can be transmitted over a given over a given bandwidth in a specific communication system.

So, we can say that ASK offers high bandwidth efficiency.

ASK modulation can be used to transmit digital data over optical fiber.

ASK modulation and ASK demodulation process are comparatively inexpensive.

PSK technique does not give higher bandwidth efficiency.

Multi-level PSK modulation schemes are more sensitive to phase variations.

The binary data is decoded by estimation of phase states of signal. These detection and recovery algorithm are very complex.

So ASK is more spectral efficient.
