A simple random sample of 10 items resulted in a sample mean of 20. The population standard deviation is σ = 6. Round your answers to two decimal places.
a. What is the standard error of the mean, σx?
b. At 95% confidence, what is the margin of error?
Solution :
Given that,
= 62.5
= 6
n = 10
a ) The standard error of the mean, σx = (/ n)
= ( 6 10 )
= 1.90
The standard error of the mean, σx = 1.9
b ) At 95% confidence level the z is ,
= 1 - 95% = 1 - 0.95 = 0.05
/ 2 = 0.05 / 2 = 0.025
Z/2 = Z0.025 = 1.960
Margin of error = E = Z/2* (/n)
= 1.960 * ( 6 10 )
= 3.72
Margin of error = E = 3.72
