In a circuit with a battery, and a switch that has several light bulbs wired in a series, the circuit is connected by the light bulbs do not shine. Which of the following could NOT result in the lights beginning to shine? WHY?

a) replacing the battery

b) adding a second identical battery

c) removing one or more light bulbs from the circuit

d) removing one or more light bulbs from its socket, but leaving the sockets in the circuit

Homework Answers

Answer #1

removing one or more light bulbs from the socket leads to the bulbs are not going to shine because when ever the bulbs are in series connection even single bulb removal makes the circuit open and ultimately causes the situation not to glow the bulbs.

If you replace battery then it may shine the bulbs

If you add second battery it also may shine the bulbs

If you removing one or more light bulbs from the circuit , but leaving the sockets in the circuit then the circuit is not open and the potential is more useful for the remaining ones and it also may cause the bulbs to shine.

Suppose you have a circuit with a 10 volt battery hooked up to a 100 ohm light bulb and a variable resistor of R ohms. The light bulb and the resistor can be hooked up in series or parallel. Draw both these circuits and label them as series or parallel and with the values of each component. Now, solve for the current in the light bulb in each of these circuits for R = 10, 100, and 1000 Ohms. Given...

Please answer.. Overview: When a wire is attached to the positive terminal of a power source, such as a battery, and to the negative terminal of the battery a potential difference is set across that wire and a current is generated through that wire. Depending on how much resistance there is in the wire will affect the amount of current through that wire. Adding more resistance will further affect the amount of current.  In this experiment you will measure both the...
