In a circuit with a battery and a switch that has several light bulbs wired in series, which will be the effect of adding another light bulb to the circuit?

Select one:

a. Nothing will change

b. The new bulb may not light up

c. The lights will all shine less brightly than before

d. The lights will all shine more brightly than before

Answer #1

Bulb is like resistance, and if we change voltage across resistance then current will changed and vice versa, but one thing is always constant that is it's resistance so to find power we will use formula P = V2/R, here R is constant and by changing voltage, power will be changed.

Now according to question if we increase number of bulbs in series then voltage will be divided across each bulb or resistance because total voltage drop across battery will have to be remain same, so from the above formula power will be decreased as voltage decreases by increasing number of bulbs in series so power will also decreased and when power is decreased of bulb then it's brightness also decreased.

option c, The lights will all shine less brightly than before.

please rate it up, Thanks!

Suppose you have a circuit with a 10 volt battery hooked up to a 100 ohm light bulb and a variable resistor of R ohms. The light bulb and the resistor can be hooked up in series or parallel. Draw both these circuits and label them as series or parallel and with the values of each component. Now, solve for the current in the light bulb in each of these circuits for R = 10, 100, and 1000 Ohms. Given...

Please answer.. Overview: When a wire is attached to the positive terminal of a power source, such as a battery, and to the negative terminal of the battery a potential difference is set across that wire and a current is generated through that wire. Depending on how much resistance there is in the wire will affect the amount of current through that wire. Adding more resistance will further affect the amount of current.  In this experiment you will measure both the...

Maintenance managers must decide when to change the light bulbs in streetlamps and other relatively inaccessible installations. It is costly to send out crews to change a single failed bulb. If each bulb lasts approximately the same amount of time, they can all be changed at once, producing significant cost savings. Suppose that a financial analysis of the lights at Coors field has concluded that it will pay to replace all of the light bulbs at the same time if...
