Explain Global Warming:

1. The science behind the greenhouse effect 2. The causes of global warming 3. The evidence and effects of global warming

Answer #1

1) greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide water vapor methane are transparent to short wavelength radiation coming from the sun, and this radiation heats up the earth surface and re-radiate long-wavelength radiations and the greenhouse gases are opaque to this wavelength or they do not allow this radiation to pass through and act as a blanket over the earth and increase the temperature.

2) a major source of carbon dioxide is the burning of fossil fuels, as the amount of greenhouse gases increases in the atmosphere the heat traps will also increase and that warm the earth.

3) sea surface temperature is increasing and the Islands in pacific oceans are in threat of sea-level rise caused by both thermal expansion and melting of glacial ice.

Carbon dioxide, which is recognized as the major contributor to global warming as a "greenhouse gas," is formed when fossil fuels are combusted, as in electrical power plants fueled by coal, oil, or natural gas. One potential way to reduce the amount of CO2 added to the atmosphere is to store it as a compressed gas in underground formations. Consider a 1000-megawatt coal-fired power plant that produces about 7×106 tons of CO2 per year. 1. Assuming ideal gas behavior, 1.00...

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the primary gases contributing to the greenhouse effect and global warming. The mean amount of CO2 in the atmostphere for June 2018 was 410.79 parts per million (ppm). Suppose 40 atmostpheric samples were selected at random in July 2018 and the standard deviation for CO2 in the atmosphere was found to be ?=20 ppm. a) Find the probability that the sample mean CO2 level is less than 405 ppm. Give your answer to four...

A USA Today article claims that the proportion of people who believe global warming is a serious issue is 0.5, but given the number of people you've talked to about this same issue, you believe it is greater than 0.5. The hypotheses for this test are Null Hypothesis: p ≤ 0.5, Alternative Hypothesis: p > 0.5. You take a random sample and perform a hypothesis test, getting a p-value of 0.3256. What is the appropriate conclusion? Conclude at the 5%...

Possible Duplicate: What experiments prove the greenhouse effect? I am seeking for a proof that CO2 is a greenhouse gas. I posted this on Skeptic.SE recently but found no help in seeking for proof: I assisted to a physicist conference in my university a few years ago against the case that carbon dioxide was a cause of global warming. The main point was that CO2 is not a greenhouse gas. I did a research to find evidence for either side...

A USA Today article claims that the proportion of people who believe global warming is a serious issue is 0.59, but given the number of people you've talked to about this same issue, you believe it is greater than 0.59. The hypotheses for this test are Null Hypothesis: p ≤ 0.59, Alternative Hypothesis: p > 0.59. You take a random sample and perform a hypothesis test, getting a p-value of 0.9623. What is the appropriate conclusion? Conclude at the 5%...
