Carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the primary gases contributing to the greenhouse effect and global warming. The mean amount of CO2 in the atmostphere for June 2018 was 410.79 parts per million (ppm). Suppose 40 atmostpheric samples were selected at random in July 2018 and the standard deviation for CO2 in the atmosphere was found to be ?=20 ppm.

a) Find the probability that the sample mean CO2 level is less than 405 ppm. Give your answer to four decimal places.

b) Find the probability that the sample mean CO2 level is between 408 and 415. Give your answer to four decimal places.

Carbon dioxide, which is recognized as the major contributor to global warming as a "greenhouse gas," is formed when fossil fuels are combusted, as in electrical power plants fueled by coal, oil, or natural gas. One potential way to reduce the amount of CO2 added to the atmosphere is to store it as a compressed gas in underground formations. Consider a 1000-megawatt coal-fired power plant that produces about 7×106 tons of CO2 per year. 1. Assuming ideal gas behavior, 1.00...

Assume that trees are subjected to different levels of carbon dioxide atmosphere with 8% of the trees in a minimal growth condition at 350 parts per million (ppm), 12% at 440 ppm (slow growth), 47% at 540 ppm (moderate growth), and 33% at 670 ppm (rapid growth). What is the mean and standard deviation of the carbon dioxide atmosphere (in ppm) for these trees? The mean is ppm. [Round your answer to one decimal place. The standard deviation is ppm....

Assume that trees are subjected to different levels of carbon dioxide atmosphere with 7% of the trees in a minimal growth condition at 340 parts per million (ppm), 12% at 460 ppm (slow growth), 46% at 530 ppm (moderate growth), and 35% at 630 ppm (rapid growth). What is the mean and standard deviation of the carbon dioxide atmosphere (in ppm) for these trees? The mean is ppm. [Round your answer to one decimal place (e.g. 98.7).] The standard deviation...

Possible Duplicate: What experiments prove the greenhouse effect? I am seeking for a proof that CO2 is a greenhouse gas. I posted this on Skeptic.SE recently but found no help in seeking for proof: I assisted to a physicist conference in my university a few years ago against the case that carbon dioxide was a cause of global warming. The main point was that CO2 is not a greenhouse gas. I did a research to find evidence for either side...

Scenario 2: Air pollution ~ A chemical plant is required to maintain sulfur dioxide levels in the working environment atmosphere at an average level of no more than 0.125 parts per million (ppm). Safety engineers measure the levels at a randomly chosen 10 intervals each week. If the sample mean sulfur dioxide level is more than 0.15 ppm, the safety protocols say that the plant will be evacuated while the air is scrubbed and machines are adjusted. The standard deviation...

Carbon dioxide CO 2 is produced by burning fossil fuels such as oil and natural gas, and has been connected to global warming. One way of checking the effect of undercoverage, nonresponse, and other sources of error in a sample survey is to compare the sample with known facts about the population. About 14% of American adults are black. The numbers X of blacks in a random sample of 1700 adults should therefore vary with the binomial (n = 1700, p = 0.14) distribution. (a) What are the mean and standard deviation of X? (Round your standard deviation to three decimal places.) mean...
