What are some reasons why people are so resistant to immigration despite this history?(minimum 350 words)
America has a history of immigration that dates back to seventeenth century. Most of the immigrants see it as a land of opportuinites where they come in the hope of better wages, good conditions of living, better law and order, good growth prospects and providing a better tomorrow for their future generations.Still, there are many people that resist influx of these immigrants. Most respondents to surveys in this regard want this number to decrease or be stable. There are a number of reasons for this, as listed below.
1. They believe that these immigrants will take the jobs from the locals by being ready to work for less and with compromising conditions.
2. They believe that the cultural landscape of the country will be affected negatively, with deterioration of Ameican way of life with dilution of moral values and attiquettes, thus resulting in a lesser society.
3. They see the immigrants as a threat to the political future of the country, as more and more immigrants will alter the voting patterns and thus the policies of the state. Higher representation of immigrants in the policy making team wikll result in more immigration.
4. They see the immigrants as the ones which will increase poverty, illiteracy, formation of ghettos, rapid growth in the population that will be difficult to control, and bring down the overall standing of the US on the world map.
5. They believe that the immigrants will affect the intellactual capital of the country negatively.
6. They see the immigrants as a source of all law and order issues. They believe that the issues like terrorism, increasing crime rates and incidents of scams have increased as a result of immigration.
