In light of Donald Trump's immigration ban, what is the definition of civil liberties. Is a blanket immigration ban legal? Please use your book for some reference, there is also many good news articles on this issue as of late. Do we have any examples in history where a blanket ban of certain groups of people have proved to be a bad idea? What are some of the arguments made for a blanket ban?

Civil liverties are personal guarantees and freedom that no government can abridge through law or judicial interpretation

As per Immigration and National Act 1965 USA cannot discriminate immigrants on basis if nationality origin and all countries must have equal shot for quotas and hence such blanket immigration ban is illegal.

In history, India has tried to push blanket immigration ban on Muslims entering North Eastern frontiers of India from Bangladesh due to terrorism and local issues. This caused mass protests and further intensified terrorist attacks on borders and was complete disaster move.

Immigration ban is last resort when the situation gets extremely worse or relations between nations is no more good. In such case nations must be ready with supreme military power and support from UNSC and other major nations to make this ban a success.
