Answer #1

Suburbanization is process in which the urban population moves to outer circles of the city for various reasons. Suburbanization in U.S was at its peak after the Great Depression and World War ll with the support of federal government due to some of the following reasons:

  • The urban centers were too congested and over populated, this stagnated the growth of cities, hence , government saw suburbanization as a solution.
  • The veterans of war needed homes after they returned home, but the cities ran short of homes. Thus, federal government came up with schemes that provided low cost mortgages to buy houses in the outer circles of the city. These were linked by good roads constructed by government to promote suburbanization.
  • The fear of increasing crime rates in the densely populated urban centers was also a reason that government support suburbanization.
