As a change leader how will you measure the effectiveness of your change process? Will you attempt to quantify it? In what ways?
A change process is a difficult one to bring in, and an even more difficult one to measure. But it will be very fruitful if you are able to quantify your change process.
Here is how you can quantify a change process-
Step 1
Define the outcomes of the process, i.e. the reasons for which you are looking to bring in a change in the system. For eg the revenues of the business are steadily decreasing over the years, and even though the overall market is gaining, you are losing out on business. So you look to change the way the sales team works and bring better revenues for the company
Step 2
After defining the final outcome, define how do you want to bring that outcome. For example, for increasing the revenues, you need to do following changes in th sales team-
1. Increase their motivation
2. Look out for new clients
3. Increase the sales team budget
4. Ask the employees the problems they were facing till date
5. Let the sales team learn some new things or methods through training
Step 3
Define under each category of points listed above, the activities that are needed to be done
Example-
Increasing motivation - Regular gifts for new clients brought in, holidays/other incentives for increasing sales with a previous client etc.
Problem solved - Give your employees a specific time for interview and ask them questions about the problems they were facing.
Step 4
Create a matrix like-
Put the numbers in each of the columns, and an improvement in all of them would show that the change process is working well.
