Mr. A had been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer and was admitted currently unresponsive. He has a grown son and has been estranged from his common law partner for more than 10 years. Mr. A is now in hospice at your facility and a conflict has arisen in that his son reports his father “always wanted to die at home without aggressive treatment”, while his common law partner insists that Mr. A was “always a fighter and always refused to give up”

Select one of the following three ethical scenarios and prepare a 2 page paper discussing the ethical principles and considerations for this elderly or disabled individual.

2.     Provide recommendations for management of the ethical dilemma inclusive of the possible choices and resulting consequences as well as who to engage in the decision making

In this condition looking at the factors that Mr. A was estranged with the common law partner since last 10 years. In this condition the disease is unrecoverable and payment for the specific kind of condition is also not clear. As there are no chances of recovery due to the excess of cancer and aggressive nature of the cancer, having a look at the time period that is spent by the son where is father provide adequate level of trust on his statement. By looking at the nature of the problem and overall circumstances I would say that going with common law partner would be adequate. As not providing treatment is never an ethical condition for any specific circumstance, treating the patient would be the most adequate structure of operation that could be implemented in the respective environment.
