Should we defund the police? Please explain your position.
Please give a detailed and comprehensive answer with multiple valid arguments

The death of Jeorge Floyd has increased clamor for defunding the Police force as a way of eliminating police violence.

We need to look at the hole issue in totality and not get carried away with emotions.

I do not agree with this suggestion because of following reasons:

i) Police play a very crucial role in maintaining law and order in the state and country. Ordinary citizens feel safe in doing their day today activities as they feel safe that a law enforcing agency is readily available for ensuring their safety.

ii) US is a country of immigrants and there are large number of illegal immigrants in the country who do not have jobs and may resort to violence in the face of adversity.

iii) Where ever police force has been reduced , the crime levels have gone up.

iv) Incidents like death of Jeorge Floyd are isolated incidents that o not represent the mentality of police force in general. The Police force is by and large fair and unbiased.

v) There is reform needed in police force in terms of removing officers having pattern of serious complaints against them . This will ensure that such incidents do not happen in future.
