A project is an attempt or effort to produce a certain tangible or intangible product (unique product, service, advantage, competitive advantage, etc.), which is temporary, unique and progressive. It typically includes a number of interconnected tasks which will be carried out within a fixed period within certain limitations and requirements, such as cost , quality, performance, etc. A project is a complex, non routine, one-time effort limited by time, budget, resource, and specifications.

The process of product lives, awareness development, global competition, downsizing organizations, technological shifts and time for the market are some environmental factors that have changed our project management. More projects per organization are affected by these forces, project teams that execute projects, responsibilities, changing organizational structures, the need for rapid project completion, linkage projects to customer and corporate strategy and priority projects to conserve organizational resources and an alliance with external organizations. These groups are responsible for projects.

Some of the key environmental forces that have change the way projects are managed include;

  • The environmental protection concern
  • The changes in technology or IT.
  • Project feasibility concerns
  • The project management team

The above environmental forces and have great impacts on the management of projects. The fundamental impact is the the environmental concerns have made project managers to set up some funds to ensure the waste from project is properly management to prevent environmental legal suits.The changes in technology have led to the invention of new capital budgeting approaches to improve project management. The feasibility and environmental assessment is done to reduce the project failure and achieve quality specifications.The management of project is also currently not individualized but really on a team of experts referred to as the project management team.
