Why do you think so many safety and health laws have been enacted?
Most safety laws were enacted to ensure the protection of workers, staff and others at the workplace from inherent hazards associated with different professions and industrial processes. The objective was to identify all possible causes of hazard, and design the processes and procedures to keep the workers safe from being hurt, minimise their exposure to risk events and adverse effects of risks on the health of workers. The other objective was to make it obligatory for the owners of establishments liable for employing protective and safety measures at their respective workplaces, and ensure that no employer overlooks safety of workers in order to save money or resources. Another objective was to determine compensation for victims and penalties for perpetrators. The too many number of laws are meant for addressing a number of different situations and specific conditions that are associated with different industries, societies and geographical locations.
