Why do you think the inflammatory response involves so many molecules and so many cell types? Why do multiple cells/cell types in the inflammatory process secrete the same molecules?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Inflammatory response involves so many molecules and cell types because they are triggered by so many factors like nonpathogenic factors, pathogenic factors and tissue damage. As there are so many factors we need many molecules and cell types to converge the stimulus to a single response ie inflammatory response.

All types of inflammatory responses have same basic mechanism with same properties like vasodilation, increased BMR, swelling, redness etc and to produce such common responses by damaged tissues, many cell types have to secrete a common set of molecules.

Damage-Associated Molecular Patterns (DAMPs) are endogenous molecules released by necrotic cells during tissue injury and that, similarly to Pathogen-Associated Molecular Patterns (PAMPs), trigger an inflammatory response. How do you think inflammation is triggered in response to tissue injury? A. DAMPs activate the complement system directly by binding complement C1 and triggering the classical pathway. B. DAMPs bind to TLRs on various cell types including neutrophils and tissue-resident macrophages, which then attract other immune cell types. Moreover, intracellular proteins that are...
