Review the Ethical and Religious Directives on Abortion. What are the theological and ethical arguments given against abortion in this document? Are there any cases in which abortion might be justified?
Most of the religious directives such as Catholic Church does not allow any form of abortion, as it considered as killing a life. However, a person with "right to life" have to exhibit certain properties, i.e. the consciousness (at least the capacity to feel pain), reasoning, self-motivation, the ability to communicate, and self-awareness. However, Warren proposed that a fetus may not exhibit all these qualities to qualify the "right to life," but if exhibits only one or none of them does not make them qualify. So, abortion is morally and ethically permissible as the fetus qualifies only one criterion (consciousness). Also, medically, abortion is allowed if the fetus has a certain type of abnormality, which severely affects the life of the child after birth.
