Discuss the pathophysiologic connection between asthma and allergies.
Definition of Asthma: Its the chronic inflammatory response of the airways as the result of the exposure to various allergans.
Definition of allergy: Its the body immune response towards any noxious substances like food, drugs, pollen, fur, dust etc to which it has become hypersensitive.
Pathophysiologic connection:
The human body is exposed to allergens (agents that can cause allergy), it triggers the body's defense mechanism which in turn leads to airways hyperresponsiveness and that results in bronchoconstriction i.e narrowing of airways. Therefore this airway obstruction produce the signs and symptoms of asthma like shortness of breadth, wheezing, chest tightness, sleep disturbances and many more.
