There have been introduction of the use of activity as well as occupation in the fields of occupational therapy, also, these have been used diversely throughout time, culture as well as country. Among occupational therapists, theories of occupation and activity have gained momentum. This is identified as a unique element in professional practice.

The therapists have identified occupation as being so central to the life of a person, that it would become as necessary as having food or drinking. Further, the therapists like to instil the importance of activity which would help the person in professional development.

The therapists state that the health of a person would be dependent on their ability to develop various skills and development of an environment that would engage them in various occupations. While in treatment, people tend to become depressed, isolated and confined within themselves.

An engagement in a particular occupation or a community activity would make them more and more positive, helping in sooner recovery.
