Empathy was made part of nursing to enhance emotional relationship between nurse and patient. Steinian approach highlights that the culture of empathic caring has both ethical and philosophical backgrounds. The most important of all is that Empathy is a safe and permissible emotion that when inculcated in caring enhances nurse-patient bond and removes all tension and demands growing with nursing practice.
So in the context of palliative care, I think the culture of empathic caring must be embraced.
