CONTAINERS USED IN PARENTERAL:
- A pharmaceutical container is a type of device which is used to
holds the drug and may be in direct contact with the drugs and if
the containers is in direct contact with drugs then it is known as
immediate container.
- Generally parenteral preparations are supplied in
Bottles,plastic bags,vials, glass ampoules etc.
- There are three types of containers are used in parenteral
these are,
1.Well closed containers
2.Hermetic Containers
3.Tightly closed Containers
- Well closed containers are used to protect the contents from
loss of the substance under normal condition of handling.
- Hermetic containers used to protect the contents from liquid
and gases and also from extraneous matter.
- Tightly closed containers are used to protect the contents from
loss of substance and also from extraneous matter.
PACKAGING USED IN PARENTERAL:
- Packing is a process in which the bulk material become a
finished product.
- Packaging is used to protect the medicinal products against all
forms of tampering and spoilage.
- generally there are two types of packaging used in parenteral
one is Primary Packaging and another is
Secondary packaging.
- Primary packaging is the type of componenets which are in
direct physical contact with the products such as
vials,clousers,blisters etc
- Secondary packaging is the type of components which are not in
direct contact with the products such as cardboard boxes, aluminium
caps etc.
- There are also many types of packing materials are used in
parenteral such as
Rubber,aluminium,paper,plastic,glass.
- Rubber is used to seal the opening of cartridges, vials and
bottles.
- Aluminium is a material which is used to seal the vials.
- Paper is a type of packing material which is used for final
packing of parenteral products.
- Glass is a type of packaging material which is used for packing
of various types of parenteral and pharmaceuticals
formulations.
- Plastic also a type of packaging material which is used to
packaging different types of sterile dosage forms.
- Generally plastic containers are made up of with thermoplastic
polymers of high molecular weight.
- The most common polymers used in packaging of parenteral
products are poly vinyl chloride,poly ethylene
teraphtalate, poly ethylene,polypropylene.
