QUESTION: Which kind of container and packaging we are going to used in parenteral?

ANSWER:

CONTAINERS USED IN PARENTERAL:

  • A pharmaceutical container is a type of device which is used to holds the drug and may be in direct contact with the drugs and if the containers is in direct contact with drugs then it is known as immediate container.
  • Generally parenteral preparations are supplied in Bottles, plastic bags, vials, glass ampoules etc.
  • There are three types of containers are used in parenteral these are,

1.Well closed containers

2.Hermetic Containers

3.Tightly closed Containers

  • Well closed containers are used to protect the contents from loss of the substance under normal condition of handling.
  • Hermetic containers used to protect the contents from liquid and gases and also from extraneous matter.
  • Tightly closed containers are used to protect the contents from loss of substance and also from extraneous matter.

PACKAGING USED IN PARENTERAL:

  • Packing is a process in which the bulk material become a finished product.
  • Packaging is used to protect the medicinal products against all forms of tampering and spoilage.
  • generally there are two types of packaging used in parenteral one is Primary Packaging and another is Secondary packaging.
  • Primary packaging is the type of componenets which are in direct physical contact with the products such as vials, clousers, blisters etc
  • Secondary packaging is the type of components which are not in direct contact with the products such as cardboard boxes, aluminium caps etc.
  • There are also many types of packing materials are used in parenteral such as Rubber, aluminium, paper, plastic, glass.
  • Rubber is used to seal the opening of cartridges, vials and bottles.
  • Aluminium is a material which is used to seal the vials.
  • Paper is a type of packing material which is used for final packing of parenteral products.
  • Glass is a type of packaging material which is used for packing of various types of parenteral and pharmaceuticals formulations.
  • Plastic also a type of packaging material which is used to packaging different types of sterile dosage forms.
  • Generally plastic containers are made up of with thermoplastic polymers of high molecular weight.
  • The most common polymers used in packaging of parenteral products are poly vinyl chloride, poly ethylene teraphtalate, poly ethylene, polypropylene.

Suppose we wish to design a closed container that will hold exactly 1 L of gasoline. We can design the tank to either be in the shape of a circular cylinder or in the shape of a rectangular prism with square base. Determine which of the two shapes will be the most economical (requires the least material to make). Recall: 1 L = 1000 cm3 .
