Answer #1

The image of the Nursing profession:

Image can be defined as imagination or a mental picture that represents a real entity or a more or less accurate likeness of a thing or person. Nursing is a profession that has suffered from public stereotyping for a long time. It has been viewed historically as a female profession and is limited to female for so long. Now the trend has shifted and everyone is showing interest in this profession without any gender discrimination. Nursing is considered as a critical resource, which is why it is essential to know its image to contribute to consolidating its identity and consequently increase its number and place among health-care professionals and society.

In some countries, nursing image is likely seen to be assistants to physicians and committed to housekeeping duties, rather than devoted to caring. Some theorists says that nurses' perception of the public stereotyping of nursing is related to the development of their self-concept, collective self-esteem, and job satisfaction, all of which are associated with their performance.

The public perceive a nurse as just someone who assists the doctor during and after treatment of the illness assisting the patient in keeping up his personal hygiene, giving the medications as prescribed by the doctor, dressing the wounds when there is a need ensuring the welfare of the patient.
