a) Positional power sources- the power a person has on the bais of his position and power
EXAMPLE - a president has his power over the country and it is only due to his position as president.
* Legitimate power - the person's formal right to make decisions ,demands and expect others to be compliant and obedient
eg) A nurse manager has the power to make decision and demand others working under her to what to be done.
* Reward- This results from one person's ability to compensate another for compliance. People in power are often able to give out rewards in the form of promotion,opportunities and compliments.
eg) Giving promotion to a nurse as a unit leader/manager with salary increment .
* Coercive power- This is comes from the belief that a person can punish others for noncompliance.
eg) Degrading a worker to lower position due to noncompliance
* Expert power- it is the power based on person's high level of skill and knowledge .When you haveknowledge and skill ,it is easy to understand ,make judgements ,decisions and perform better than others.
eg) A nurse with uptodate knowledge and experince can perfom excellent in her duties than a new registered nure.
* Referent power - this resultsfrom person's worthiness and right to respect from others.A leader can influence others by giving respect and concerns.
eg) Employees work better if their manager shows concern and respect to them.
* Positive reinforcement always gives a motivation stimulus to perform better and makes people happy to work.
* It helps to improve the perfomance and productivity of employees
3) Power is the person's ability to control other individuals and their activities
