Answer #1

Health care system itself is a huge data base, the information which can be utilized effectively for research purpose which can aid in Evidence based practice. Certain health care related data are not supposed to be revealed to a third party without consent from patient. Whereas certain other information like staff performance rates following innovative training techniques, rate of admissions, prevalent cases among inpatients, mortality and morbidity rates, effectiveness rate of certain health care interventions can be shared as per hospital policies.

The details that cannot be shared for research purpose are personal information including patient's identity, contact details including emails, phone number etc. Confidential information in the patient data base can be shared for research purposes, only with a written consent from individual subjects or health care surrogates. In short the data which are owned by the hospital management can be shared for research purpose based on organisational policies or as per legal responsibilities and patient's data can only be shared with proper written consent.
