Compare a person-centred and a non person-centred approach to dementia care.
The person-centered approach focuses on the staff interaction to the person or patient base on his or her individual personality, medical history, beliefs and values. In this, care is provided with a focus on people rather than focusing on health. This makes a partnership with the staff, patient, and family members for the provision of quality care. There is the involvement of 8 principles that are individuality, right to live for the patient, right to choice, maintain privacy, independence in self-care, autonomy, dignity and respect to others.
The non-person-centered approach focus on direct patient care that includes maintaining the patient and nurse therapeutic relationship, and more focus on the treatment or care of the patient directly rather than focusing on the whole surrounding of the patient.
