10. Steam expands isentropically from 200 psia and 50 oF superheat to 15 % moisture. Determine the final steam pressure, in psia, using the Mollier diagram.

State your answer to one decimal place. Example: 18.0

Answer #1

Please note that vertical line from point A is drawn since the process is isentopic meaning the entropy remains constant during expansion.

Since I have used Mollier Chart in SI units and then converted the answer to fps, the answer may not match exactly. However, I have tried to focus on the steps which can be used for other similar problems.

For any further clarification or feedback please reply in the comments.

Synthesis gas may be produce by the catalyst reforming of methane with steam. The reactions are: CH4 + H2O → CO + 3H2 CO + H2O → CO2 + H2 A small plant is being to produce 1000 mol/s of hydrogen (H2) by the reactions. 280 mol/s of Methane with 100 % of excess steam (excess % relative to the reaction one) are fed to the heat exchanger at 150 °C and heated with superheated vapor. The superheated vapor inlet...

It is to be fed to the combustion chamber in 10% excess air at 25ºC, where it is completely burnt to carbon dioxide and water. The flue gases produced are to be used to generate 5 bar steam from water at 90ºC. (a) Write balanced equations for the combustion of each component of the fuel gas. (b) Explain the need for excess air....

United flight 15 from New York’s JFK to San Francisco uses a Boeing 757-200 with 182 seats. Because some people with reservations don’t show up, United can overbook by accepting more than 182 reservations. If the flight is not overbooked, the airline will lose revenue due to empty seats, but if too many seats are sold and some passengers are denied seats, the airline loses money from the compensation that must be given to bumped passengers. Assume that there is...
