In the example of honeybees, we said that the farmers pay the beekeepers for pollination services. But why don’t the beekeepers pay the fruit farmers? After all, the beekeepers need the fruit farmers to make honey, so why does the payment go one way and not the other? (Hint: What if the honey produced by some fruits and vegetables, such as almonds, is bitter?)

Answer #1

Honeybees are reducing in pollulation in the present day due to pollution and global warming . So this is affecting pollination . Pollination is important for growth of fruits . So farmers pay beekeepers to harvest more bees in order to get the pollination services .

Honey produced by some fruits and vegatbles are not fit for consumption . Also honeybees can collect the pollen grains from other flowers growing in wild . Hence beekeepers do not need any services directly from fruit farmers . Fruit farmers need the bees more than the bees require fruits to make honey in economic sense . Hence the payment goes one way .

(1) Using a generator for a binomial distribution, we will test the results of Example 3.8.2. Using software generate 500 random deviates for X from a B(10, 0.3) distribution and 500 random deviates for Y from a B(5, 0.3) distribution. Add corresponding random deviates from each distribution to form an empirical W=X+Y. Then use the theoretical result of Example 3.8.2 and directly generate another 500 random deviates for W from a B(15, 0.3). Order the result of the sum of...

Chapter 4 deals with incentives, and in this case we will look at PIECEWORK. This rewards employees based on their individual hourly production against an objective output standard and, of course, also something that may contribute to pay is the efficiency of the machinery. For example, if machinery is running slow or malfunctions, then people cannot produce work and, therefore, will earn less. So it’s a combination of the worker’s efforts and the machinery/capital. The payment standard: Hourly rate: $4.50...
