Why might we want to move data physically closer to end-users

Answer #1

Answer:

  • The characteristic function of any edge data center should be speed. The whole aim of pushing data processing to the edge of the network is by reducing latency to speed up response times.
  • Since edge data centers are closer to end-users, their output in nearly any case should be faster. This increased efficiency does not also cost more.
  • Through laying improved cables or improving electricity, edge computing does not have better coverage (although it can help increase the efficiency of 5 G networks as they are completely implemented); it is actually a more effective data transmission and delivery architecture so it can provide information with reduced latency easily to local users.
