Answer #2

Activated carbon is one of the substance which is used to remove iodine. Iodine may occur naturally in water. It may leads to detrimental effects when iodine come in contact with certain other materials present in water such as halogens, alkali metals etc. If iodine more than a specific amount reaches human body that may develops rashes, sleeping disorders, lung irritation, bronchitis and eyes may have burned sensation if come in contact with eyes.Chlorination followed by active carbon treatment was found to be more effective as it adsorbed almost 90% of iodine compounds.

Suppose you want to remove fish of an exotic species that have illegally been introduced into a lake. There are two possible removal methods. The marginal cost function of the first method is $7x, where x is the number of fish removed using this method, and the marginal cost function of the second method is $9y, where y is the number of fish removed using this method. Ecologists have determined that 144 fish need to be removed, so x +...

You perform an extraction to remove a compound dissolved in an aqueous layer into an organic layer. 80% of the compound is removed after one extraction. You perform the extraction two more times with equivalent amounts of the organic layer. You should expect to extract approximately how much of the compound from the water? 99.2% What is the equation to do this?
