Case#1: Develop a personal sense of time
Keeping a time log
One important way by which you can develop a personal sense of time
is to keep a time log, recording how your time is actually spent
over a period of say, a week. The principle of a time log or audit
is to divide each day for the next week or two into fteen minute
intervals. At the end of each hour record how the previous hour was
spent. Keeping a time log may sound to you like a tedious chore,
but there is a reason for it.There is often a gap between what we
think we are doing and what we are actually doing. Why not take an
objec-tive or experimental approach, like that of a scientist, to
nd out where your time is really going? You may be in for some
surprises.
How do you value other people’s time?
Developing a personal sense of time includes developing a personal
sense of the value of other people’s time. How do you rate as a
manager – or mismanager – of other people’s working capital of
time? To discover your attitudes to other people’s time, complete
the following exercise. If a statement describes your attitude or
behaviour check Yes if not, check No.Tell the truth!
Attitudes and behaviours to other people’s
time
1. I look upon the time of those who work for me as an extension of
my own, to do with as I please.
2. I frequently interrupt meetings in their ofces, as I have rst
priority on their time.
3. I regard job descriptions – that each position in an
organisation has its own proper duties, responsibilities and
authority – as a bureaucratic nonsense.
4. When telephoning anyone I never check to see if my call is an
unwanted interruption at that particular moment.
5. I enjoy the sound of my own voice and I know that I am rather
long-winded at meetings.
Summary
Time – human time – is the most precious natural resource you
have.
Time is well-managed if:– things that ought to run smoothly are
doing so – desired ends are being achieved by the economical use of
time.
Time is well-led if those ends are carefully thought through in
terms of purpose, aims and objectives in a rapidly changing
world.
Your personal sense of time should include an awareness of the
value or importance of other people’s time as well as your own.
Question#1: Summarize the case study with your own wording & understanding into 500 words. How can this chapter help you in your life? Provide practice examples from your life, about its usage?
No plagiarism, it will check,
Time is handled effectively when: – tasks that would move easily, are done by the efficient usage of resources. Time is well managed if the aims, aims and objectives in a rapidly changing world are thought through carefully. Awareness of the value or importance of time and your own should include your personal sense of time. Yet another way to expand a personal sense of time is to keep a record of your time over a period of one week. One important way to keep a log of time. Time logs and audits are to be divided in intervals of 15 minutes for the next week or two each day, at the end of each hour of the audit. Holding a schedule seems like a boring job but there's a justification for it. There's always a difference in what we think we know versus what we are. Some surprises you may be in. Expansion of a personal sense of time involves a personal sense of the value of time for others.
In real life, Maintain as correct all your clocks as you can. Remember, on your computer, car and mobile phone you can check them. When entering a new environment, make sure that all clocks are matched or not. Carry a watch, carry a mobile or other device, at all times, when you work. The more exact your clocks are, the better you can adjust your time. Maintain your tempo of sleeping patterns. Human beings have a natural clock within which biological processes are regulated. If this rhythm is disturbed, you can not only judge time with difficulty, but also adverse health and productivity effects. Developing the schedule in which you feed, sleep, and receive natural light at the same time of day to preserve the circadian rhythm streamlined. Find a clock and mention the time when you have a shot. Go through your regular life, try to guess if it was an hour. Check your guess for a clock and note your time gap. As you progress, you try to estimate the time periods differ.
If you start a task with a definite start and end (read a book chapter, drive into the house of a friend and take a shower), you can think how much you're going to take. Just guess how long it has taken you when you finish. Check the time. Check the time. How far was your guess from the beginning? How far has your second devination been? Set a time timer for the top end of the provided range if you start a job with a defined timeline (such as cooking). Set a timer for 5 minutes for instance if you cook oatmeal 3-5 minutes. Assign yourself the task of devining after three or four minutes. The timepiece will save you from burning oatmeal if you make a mistake. But you will get to know how long you will leave the oatmeal cooking with practice, as many chefs learn to cook with different dishes. Record in a time-span journal your progress. Write it down when you notice a time gap. You can find a drawing, so you prefer to slow in the morning around 15 minutes, and fast in the afternoon around 30 minutes. Or, like most men, whether you do something monotonous or dull, time appears to move gradually and you travel quickly while you stay busy and have fun. As you keep up with reality, you will significantly improve your sense of time.
