How is grading used for storm drainage control?
Generally grading is used for drainage purpose in paved areas as unpave areas are bare and water can easily infiltrate to through the soil and joins the sub surface water table but it is not the case with paved areas.
Paved areas are mostly impermeable areas and if they are constructed flat then storm water will get accumulate over there and remain for longer duration untill it gets evaporated as infiltration can not occur there significantly.
So these paved areas are graded by providing little slope with respect to the horizontal so that accumulated water gets energy due to gravity and flow away and are joined to lower elevation with either a storm sewer, drainage basin or gutters etc. Where it gets collected and drained away to the desired destination from there.
This grading is very essential in the management of storm drainage control.
