Control banding is an idea that there are so many different types of chemicals that people are exposed to, but there is only a few ways to protect the person form the hazards. What control banding is that it groups chemicals together based on the amount of risk or danger the chemical can cause a person. These groups are based on how much protection one needs. The higher the danger of the chemical is the higher the protection needed. The group that is labeled stringent is the group that would need the most protection. Control banding allow you to assess risk and choose a proper way to control the situation easier by reduction the amount of exposer the worker sees. By grouping chemical together, it will make it easier to train your employees on what is need to protect themselves. If your facility uses a lot of different chemicals, it may be had for the employees to remember what person protective equipment is needed for each chemical. For example if you have a group system that is 1-6 with 6 being the most dangerous and have the chemicals labeled with their group, when a worker comes up to a chemical rated 3 he will know what he need to have on when using this chemical.
