The gravel packing materail should be clean and should have rounded grains that are smooth.

The size of the screen opeining should be such that it able to retain 90%of the gravel packing material means the size of opening is equal to effective grain size of gravel pack material(D10) and this is done for avoiding segregation near the opening of the fine material.
