Describe the circumstances in which the following processes could be used to separate the components of a mixture:
evaporation of a solvent from an solution

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Evaporation is the process of escape of liquid molecules from its surface due to un equal forces aroud itself.

When there is pure solvent(liquid) all the surface is covered by only solvent molecules all of they have tendency to escape, hence has more evaporation capacity.

But when a solute is added to this solvent some of solvent molecules from the surface are now replaced by solute molecules and thus the number of solven molecules that tend to escape from the surface is decreased and thus evaporation of solvent from solution takes much more tike than from pure solvent.
