Fluorescence is the emission of light by a compound from its excited state as light. Usually, photon is absorbed by molecules and the molecule at the excited state loses energy either by non-radiative decay such as vibrational relaxation or by radiative decay process which is known as fluorescence.

9-(2- phenylethenyl) anthracene possess fluorescent properties as the non-radiative decay process of this molecule is less as compared to the radiative decay process. As a result it fluoresces.
