Boiling point is one of the characteristic of a compound, so measuring boiling point gives an idea of the probable compounds which may be present in our sample.

And, for surity (ie whether the compound in the sample is same as that of probable compound) just mix the small amount of sample with that of probable compound then measure the boiling point and if the boiling point is same as that of their individually boiling points. Then, its confirm that probable compound is present in the sample.
