List the following given compounds from lowest to highest normal boiling point, and briefly explain your choices.

            Ar CH3-O-CH3 CHCl3   CaBr2 C2H5OH Ne    Co(NO3)3 (aq) Cl2

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ne    Ar   Cl2 CH3-O-CH3   CHCl3       C2H5OH Co(NO3)3 CaBr2

Inert gaes are have no intermolecular forces. Hence boiling point is very low. Then halogens also have No intermolecular forces. Then ethers having vandeerwalls forces followed by chloroform which having dipole momoent to increase boiling point . In alcohols hydrogen bonding is present which increases the boiling point than ethers and chloroform.

Normally ionic compounds are having more boiling point because of polar bonds
