Please comment on ANALYSIS TIME between using HPLC and GC

Homework Answers

Answer #1

HPLC(High perormance liquid chromotography), GC(Gas chromotography) these are both methods scientists used to analyze samples to determine what the sample contain or the concentration of the molecules in the sample. Both are use the same principle, that heavier molecule will elute , or flow more slowly than lighter ones ( polarity also plays a role in elution time)

The comparive ease of this HPLC method in comparison to the GC strongly that HPLC would be the first choice for analysis , if this trend is maintained across a wide range of analytes.

TLC and HPLC Analysis of Analgesics: A student submitted a sample of aspirin for HPLC analysis. Based on the type of detector used in HPLC analysis and the type of compounds that can be detected, if the aspirin was contaminated (wet) with trace amounts of a solvent such as ethyl acetate, hexane, or water, would this contaminant be detected AND would it appear as a peak in the HPLC chromatogram?

An HPLC analysis is carried out on codeine phosphate linctus. The linctus is diluted to 50.00 mL with water prior to analysis. The weight of the linctus analyzed was 13.5000 g. The density of the linctus was 1.2522 g/mL using a densitometer. Area of the 0.076050% w/v codeine phosphate standard was 85,585. The area of the codeine phosphate peak obtained from the linctus was 62,880. Calculate the percent w/v of codeine phosphate in the linctus. Please show all work.
