4. Dermal tissue is typically a thin layer of cells that cover the plant. Does this thin layer imply that this tissue is not essential or not as important as other cell types for the plant? Explain.

Answer #1

The dermal tissue system protects the soft tissue of the plant and controls the interaction with surrondings. The epidermis is a dermal tissue which secretes waxy layer called cuticle which prevents the waer loss from plants. In epidermal hairs are present which reduces the water loss by reducing the flow of air on the plant surface.Glandular hairs on epidermis prevent herbivory by storing substance which are harmfull to insects.Root hais present in the epidermis of root increase the surface area of the cell thus the water absorption.

Cells are constantly getting signals that determine whether they survive, grow and divide, differentiate, or die (see figure 16-6). Cells are grown in culture (outside of the body) for a variety of reasons- such as testing drug efficacy and determining the properties of different types of cancers (to name a couple). In order to culture cells, essential nutrients (carbohydrates, amino acids, vitamins, and hormones) need to be present, and these nutrients are provided by using different types of cell culturing...

Background Almost all animal and plant cells require oxygen and give off carbon dioxide. This is called gas exchange and it occurs by passive diffusion. Some animals do all or most of their gas exchange across their skin (for example amphibians) but they have very low metabolisms and use very little oxygen and get rid of very little carbon dioxide. On the other hand humans (and other mammals) have very high metabolic requirements and we can’t rely on gas exchange...
