Only a smaller part of DNA about 1% is made up of protein coding genes and the rest of the DNA which contributes to remaining 99% are noncoding. These noncoding genes are not involved in protein synthesis. Since the genes in DNA are closely packed together it may occur as though all genes are involved in making protein. It was found in 1960's that most part of the DNA consists of a repaeating sequence which donnot involve in making protein.
